The University of Melbourne or informally Melbourne University is an Australian public university located in the city of Melbourne, Victoria. Founded in the year 1853, it is Australia’s 2nd oldest university, and it is the oldest in Victoria. The Times Higher Education ranks it as 33rd in the world and the Academic Ranking of World Universities positions it at number 44 in the world. Both surveys rank it first in Australia.
