Washington University in St. Louis

The Washington University in St. Louis is a private research university found in St. Louis, Missouri, US that was founded in 1853. It is named after the United States” first President, George Washington. The university has students from all the 50 US states and over 120 foreign countries. 25 Nobel laureates have through Washington University, nine having undergone their major part of their pioneering research at the institution. It is as a result ranked among the best universities in the United States.



Washington University is comprised of seven graduate and undergraduate schools which encompass a wide range of academic disciplines and splendid facilities. Officially incorporated as known as The Washington University, the University is also called the WUSTL derived from its initials. However, it is most commonly referred as “WashU.” To avoid confusion over its location, its Board of Trustees decided to include the phrase “in St. Louis” in the year 1976. WUSTL first hosted a US Presidential debate in 1992, and it has been chosen most times than any other in the country’s history. Recently, it hosted US Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, on October 2016

Under Graduate

The Washington University’s undergraduate program is ranked at position 19 in the US in the 2017 US News & World Report National Universities standing. Also, 19 undergraduate courses are ranked together with those the best universities in the United States. WUSTL received a whopping 30,117 applications for its freshman class of 1500 with and had an acceptance rate of 13.7%. Over 90% of its admitted first-year students were ranked in the top 10% in their high school classes. In the year 2006, the university was ranked fourth overall and second in private universities’ category in the number of admitted National Merit Scholar first-year students.

In 2008, Washington University was ranked first for its quality of life as per The Princeton Review, among other prestigious rankings. Also, its Oline Business School’s undergraduate course is ranked together with those of the best universities in the United States. The Oline Business School’s undergraduate course is also among the US’s most competitive, admitting just 14% of applicants in the year 2007 and ranking number one in SAT scores. It has an average composite of 1492 M+CR as per the BusinessWeek.


Graduate School

Its graduate schools include the School of Medicine, which is currently ranked 6th in the nationally together with the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, presently ranked number one. The course in occupational therapy at this university currently occupies the first position in the 2016 US News & World Report rankings. Its Physical Therapy program is also ranked first. In the 2015 edition, the School of Law was ranked 18th, the Clinical Psychology, and Science department ranked 14th. The Oline Business School was then ranked 19th.


Extra-Curricular Activities

WUSTL’s sports teams are known as the Bears. They are popular members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association that participate in the UAA’s Division III. The Bears have won a whopping 19 NCAA Division III cups including one in women’s cross country, one in men’s tennis, two in men’s basketball, five in women’s basketball and 10 in women’s volleyball and other 144 UAA titles in 15 other sports disciplines.
